Krastova Gora

Krastova Gora is one of the largest Christian centers in Bulgaria, which attracts a large number of pilgrims. The reason is the legend that a piece of the Christ’s Cross was buried here. Many legends speak about this place and all of them are related to the Cross of Christ and the wonder of healing.

The church “Protection of Holy Virgin Mary” which was completed in 1995 is situated in the beginning of the chapel complex. Chapels dedicated to the 12 apostles are placed along the area from it to a small hill. Read more...

The National Astronomical Observatory of Rozhen is located on the Rhodope peak of Rozhen, at an altitude of 1,750 m, at a distance of 25 km from the town of Smolyan. The winter resort Pamporovo is situated at the foot of Snezhanka peak (1,926 m) in the Rhodope mountain, at a distance of 260 km from Sofia, 85 km from Plovdiv and 16 km from Smolyan. The resort is situated on an elevation of 1,650 m above the sea level. The average yearly temperature is 5.5 . Pamporovo has existed as a resort since the 1960s. Read more...
